Role: Principal Data Scientist – AI & Data Innovation

Location: Remote first | Occasional travel within the UK.

Salary: £120,000-£145,000 per annum + performance related bonus, private healthcare and a range of other benefits

Sector: Healthcare and Public Sector (highly desirable)

Role Overview

This role offers the opportunity to join one of the UK’s most advanced AI practices, driving enterprise‑scale AI solutions across government, regulated industries, and commercial markets. As a Principal Data Scientist, you’ll shape the strategic direction of large‑scale AI programmes, guide technical innovation across generative and agentic AI, and work directly with senior stakeholders to translate complex technical challenges into measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and assurance of complex, production‑grade AI systems within large‑scale transformation programmes.
  • Act as the senior technical authority and trusted advisor to client and internal leadership teams.
  • Direct the application of state‑of‑the‑art methods including LLMs, reinforcement learning, RAG, and agentic AI systems.
  • Champion responsible AI principles ensuring security, transparency, and ethical deployment.
  • Mentor and grow high‑performing teams across data science, AI engineering, and delivery management.
  • Build and influence client relationships, leading AI solution strategies that drive tangible commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop new commercial AI propositions and partner ecosystems.

Candidate Profile

You will be a senior technical leader with extensive experience building scalable, enterprise‑grade AI solutions. You’ll combine deep technical fluency with commercial awareness and an ability to influence at C‑suite level. Specifically, you will demonstrate:

  • Broad and current expertise across both generative and predictive modelling techniques.
  • Experience applying new AI engineering techniques (prompt engineering, RAG, agentic orchestration).
  • Strong grounding in cloud‑native data science and data engineering.
  • Passion for responsible AI, with clear evidence of advocacy or policy influence.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills including board‑level engagement.
  • Experience leading diverse technical teams and shaping account growth strategies.

Experience fine‑tuning large models using modern frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), developing open‑source AI tools or contributing to research and standards. Familiarity with data storage optimised for AI workloads (vector databases, knowledge graphs) is beneficial.
