Lead Software Engineer

Company: Amplience
Apply for the Lead Software Engineer
Location: Manchester
Job Description:

Overview

At Amplience, we’re transforming how global brands create, manage and deliver content. We provide a powerful, unified platform spanning Content Management Systems, Data Asset Management and Content Supply Chain solutions so retailers can move faster, smarter and with confidence.

Our vision is simple but bold: a world where content moves at the speed of ideas. We’re growing and doing things differently. That means flexibility in how and where you work, a genuinely collaborative culture, and the chance to learn from smart people solving real-world problems. We believe great work happens when people feel supported, trusted and able to live well outside of work.

What you’ll be doing

As a Lead Software Engineer, you’ll lead a team that owns one of Amplience’s core systems, overseeing both the stability and enhancement of the existing platform while driving new feature development. By collaborating closely with architects and stakeholders, you’ll ensure reliability, performance, and continuous innovation to meet evolving business needs. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Providing technical direction across the software development lifecycle, ensuring best practices, high standards and scalable solutions.
  • Contributing directly to the codebase, delivering sprint goals and tackling complex technical challenges.
  • Line‑managing a small, high‑performing backend engineering team, including mentoring, coaching and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Ensuring the stability, performance, and evolution of a mission‑critical platform, working closely with architects and stakeholders to drive innovation.

What you’ll bring

Strong background in backend software engineering with hands‑on experience building systems in Java and TypeScript. Commercial experience with AWS and its core services, familiarity with NoSQL principles (DynamoDB a bonus), and experience with search technologies. Ideally you have designed and delivered event‑driven, asynchronous systems and understand how to build, deploy and operate software using CI/CD pipelines and automation best practices. Experience with REST and GraphQL API design principles, scalable and highly available platforms, and a background in a technical leadership or team‑lead capacity, where you’ve mentored engineers, provided technical direction or line‑managed team members.

What’s in it for you

We believe great work happens when people feel supported, trusted and able to live well beyond work. That’s why we offer Flexi Fridays, company‑wide recharge days and a paid day off in your birthday month, giving you genuine time to rest and reset. You’ll benefit from a competitive pension, the option to buy extra holiday, flexibility of remote working, access to the latest tech, a cycle‑to‑work scheme and an advanced season ticket loan. We invest in your future with learning and development opportunities, study leave, life assurance and volunteering leave so you can give back. While the role is predominantly remote, we have connection days once a month in either our Middlesbrough or Manchester hub.

If this sounds like you and you want to be part of our continued growth, please forward your CV to discuss further.
