Data Analyst

Company: Tasman Analytics
Apply for the Data Analyst
Location: Greater London
Job Description:

What you’ll actually do

Understand the business problem first. You’ll work with clients across industries — marketing, e‑commerce, subscriptions, B2B SaaS — to figure out what they really need, not just what they ask for. You’ll write product briefs, scope requirements, and prioritise ruthlessly based on business value.

Deliver insight fast. Sometimes the right answer is a quick query and a Slack message. Sometimes it’s a four‑week exploratory analysis with statistical validation. You’ll know the difference and act accordingly.

Build dashboards people actually use. You’ll design and build reporting in tools like Omni, Looker, and Holistics — with clear information architecture, sensible navigation, and zero unnecessary complexity. Self‑serve analytics that works means fewer bottlenecks and faster decisions.

Collaborate across the data team. You’ll work closely with analytics engineers and data engineers to design data models, QA outputs, and make sure what’s in the warehouse actually supports the analysis layer. You own the semantic layer and explore designs.

Use AI as a tool, not a crutch. We expect you to use AI to accelerate code, drafts, and routine tasks — while maintaining full awareness of its limitations. Document when and how you use it.

About You

Must‑haves:

  • Proven experience in a data analyst role where your work informed real business decisions
  • Strong SQL. Comfortable with Python for data manipulation.
  • Experience with BI/dashboarding tools and version control (GitHub/GitLab)
  • Ability to explain complex data concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience across multiple industries or business models — you understand that “churn” means different things to a SaaS company and a retailer

What sets you apart:

  • You ask better questions than most analysts. You dig into vague briefs until you find the actual problem.
  • You think in terms of business outcomes, not just data outputs
  • You’re comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and iterating on findings in real time
  • You write clearly — product briefs, analysis reports, Slack summaries.

How we work

Tasman is remote‑first, ~20 people, spread across Amsterdam and London. We work in sprints with clients, typically 3–6 month engagements. We build world‑class data capabilities and hand them over — we don’t stick around forever.

Three behaviours define our best people: deliver impact (stay focused on client value), communicate effectively (we’re distributed — writing matters), and take ownership (manage your own work to a high standard without being managed).

The compensation and benefits for someone based in the UK are:

  • Salary depending on experience: £50,000 – £65,000
  • £1,000 budget for home office equipment (e.g. a desk or chair)
  • £80 per month sports & wellbeing allowance
  • £1,000 annual budget for training and professional development
  • Pension contribution of 5% from us, 3% from you
