Job Overview
The post involves working a full shift rota, including nights and weekends. The main duties of the role include:
- Ensuring a safe and high standard of care for all patients in the Emergency Department and working within the guidelines and practices of the department, including liaison with colleagues in ED and other departments.
- Assisting with the training and supervision of medical students and allied health professionals in the Emergency Department.
- Attending organised teaching sessions and participating in departmental audit projects.
- Participating in regular appraisal and mentoring sessions with the designated educational supervisor.
About the Department
This is one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the United Kingdom with over 150,000 attendances per annum. UHCW is one of the three designated Major Trauma Centres in the West Midlands and last year treated over 300 patients with an ISS >15. A helipad adjacent to the Emergency Department receives large volumes of trauma patients from an extended catchment area. The department has excellent links with the local ambulance service and air ambulances, and is eligible to receive PHEM trainees from 2013. UHCW submits regular high‑quality data to TARN and is currently one of the top‑performing MTCs in the UK based on TARN data.
Candidate Requirements
Successful applicants will need experience within Emergency Medicine post foundation training and to be currently working at ST4 level or above if in a non‑training post, or to be ST3 level or above if currently in EM training and looking for a year out of training.
