Senior Data Governance Specialist

Company: Prima
Apply for the Senior Data Governance Specialist
Location: Greater London
Job Description:

Are you looking for a new challenge? Fancy helping us shape the future of motor insurance? Prima could be the place for you. Since 2015, we’ve been using our love of data and tech to rethink motor insurance and bring drivers a great experience at a great price. Our story began in Italy, where we’ve quickly become the number one online motor insurance provider. In fact, we’re trusted by over 5 million drivers. And now we’re expanding to help millions more drivers in the UK and Spain.

To help fuel that growth, we need a Senior Data Governance Specialist to join our Engineering team. This team is the beating heart of Prima.

You’ll be joining over 300 engineers across software development, infrastructure, operations and security. Fueled by curiosity, experimentation and collaboration, you’ll help deliver scalable, impactful solutions that shape the future of insurance.

What You’ll Do

  • Data Governance operating model: Define and maintain the governance framework (domains, councils/forums, decision rights, RACI), clarifying roles such as Data Owners, Data Stewards, and technical custodians. Facilitate governance cadences (domain working groups, escalation paths, prioritization) and drive stakeholder alignment across business and tech.
  • Own enterprise metadata: Govern and scale Business Glossary, KPI/metric definitions, data dictionaries, and documentation standards to reduce ambiguity and improve data literacy. Drive adoption of a data catalog approach (discovery, context, ownership, certifications) and ensure assets have the right business and technical metadata.
  • Establish standards and processes for data lineage (business + technical): certification of critical datasets/reports, and impact analysis for changes. Define governance requirements for new data products (documentation, ownership, SLAs, access model, retention, quality expectations, monitoring).
  • Data quality as strategic pillar: Define DQ strategy for critical domains: quality dimensions, thresholds, ownership, and remediation workflows. Drive root‑cause analysis patterns with platform/engineering teams and track improvements via KPIs. (Stewardship typically covers day‑to‑day quality management, within a broader governance model.)
  • Enablement, change management: Create playbooks, templates, and training to embed governance in delivery (from intake to release). Mentor more junior profiles and act as a trusted advisor for business stakeholders, helping teams “do the right thing” with minimal friction.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in Data Governance / Data Management / Analytics Governance in complex organizations (ideally regulated environments).
  • Proven experience designing and running governance mechanisms end‑to‑end: operating model, stewardship/ownership, glossary & metrics, metadata/catalog, lineage, access & privacy controls, and data quality.
  • Strong understanding of governance capabilities and maturity concepts (e.g., governance + security emphasis, business data knowledge/metadata, controls).
  • Ability to influence without authority: strong stakeholder management, facilitation, negotiation, and communication across technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong problem solving, pragmatic approach, and ability to drive execution in ambiguous environments.

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Experience with governance / catalog / lineage / DQ tooling (e.g., Collibra/Alation/Purview, lineage tooling, data observability, data contracts).
  • DAMA‑related certifications or training (DAMA International/Italia) and/or governance frameworks exposure.
  • Experience in insurance/financial services or similarly regulated contexts.
