About the Company
My client is a privately owned, multi-disciplinary infrastructure contractor delivering utilities and civil engineering projects across the UK.
The business specialises in multi-utility infrastructure, including electricity networks, telecommunications, water, gas, and renewable energy projects. Based in the North West of England, the company works closely with DNOs, ICPs, and major infrastructure partners to deliver projects from design through to construction and deployment.
As the business continues to expand within the EV charging and energy transition sector, they are building their capability around grid connections and electrical infrastructure to support the delivery of large-scale EV charging hubs and power infrastructure projects across the UK.
The Role
We are looking for a Technical Director to lead grid connections and EV infrastructure strategy for a rapidly growing utilities contractor.
This role will act as the technical authority within the organisation, leading the technical strategy across HV/LV electrical infrastructure, grid connections, and EV charging projects.
Working closely with engineering, delivery, and business development teams, you will provide technical leadership across grid capacity assessments, points of connection, substations, transformers, and power distribution infrastructure, helping the business deliver complex infrastructure projects as it scales its presence within the EV and energy transition sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead DNO connection strategy and grid capacity assessments for EV and infrastructure projects
- Provide technical guidance on points of connection, substations, transformers, and switchgear
- Deliver technical leadership across HV and LV power distribution infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and engineering standards
- Utilise experience within ICP or RDNO frameworks to guide connection processes
- Support and mentor engineering and design teams
- Advise business development teams on technical feasibility of new opportunities
- Provide oversight on supply chain selection and technical risk management
Ideal Background
- Experience delivering HV/LV grid connections for EV, energy, or infrastructure projects
- Background working with DNOs, ICPs, IDNOs or grid connection frameworks
- Strong knowledge of substations, transformers, switchgear, and power distribution
- Experience leading or supporting engineering and design teams
- Electrical Engineering qualification and HV authorisation
