This is a hands-on, varied role combining depot-based diagnostics with roadside breakdown work, ideal for a confident technician who thrives on problem-solving and independence. The Role As an HGV Breakdown Technician, you’ll be on the frontline keeping vehicles safe, compliant, and roadworthy. Your responsibilities will include:Responding efficiently to roadside breakdowns and customer call-outsDiagnosing mechanical and electrical faultsServicing and repairing HGVs to DVSA and MOT standardsCompleting inspections, job cards, and timesheets accuratelyEnsuring all work meets legal and safety requirementsWorking independently while maintaining excellent communication with customers and colleaguesRepresenting the business with a professional, customer-focused approachWorking Hours & Shifts45 hours per weekMonday–Friday, plus every other Saturday morningAlternating weekly shifts:Week 1: 06:00 – 13:00Week 2: 13:00 – 22:00On-call rota: overnight, every other weekMajority of work is depot-based, with some roadside breakdownsPay & Allowances£18.66 per hour£37.50 per call-out£25 per on-call nightOvertime availableOTE up to £60,000 per yearWhat We’re Looking For Essential:IVR Qualification for Roadside AssistanceFull UK driving licenceCategory C1 licenceQualified HGV Technician (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)Strong diagnostic and fault-finding experienceAbility to work independently and manage workload effectivelyOwn tools (annual tooling allowance provided)Desirable:Previous roadside breakdown experienceMain dealer backgroundExperience with Renault Trucks (beneficial, not essential)IRTEC qualificationWhy Join Us?25 days holiday + bank holidaysCompetitive salary with strong OTE£1,500 annual tooling allowanceCompany pension schemeSick payDeath in service benefitEnhanced maternity & paternity payHoliday sell-back schemeHealth & wellbeing programmeFree parking & good transport linksCompany events & additional perksAbout the Company With over 40 years’ experience in the commercial vehicle sector, this business is a trusted name in truck and van support.
