As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for working closely with our client’s students, providing personalised support and interventions to facilitate their academic, social, and emotional development. Your role will involve creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, where students feel empowered to reach their full potential.
- Assist students with autism in achieving their individual educational and personal goals, as outlined in their education, health, and care plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement tailored learning strategies, accommodations, and adaptations.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support, ensuring students are actively engaged and making progress in their learning.
- Facilitate social and communication skills development through targeted activities and modelling appropriate behaviours.
- Implement positive behaviour management techniques to support students in regulating their emotions and behaviours.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents/carers, updating them on their child’s progress and addressing any concerns.
- Contribute to the ongoing assessment and monitoring of student progress, assisting in the collection and analysis of data.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, training, and staff meetings to continuously enhance your knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding and empathy for students on the autism spectrum, respecting their unique needs and perspectives.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children or young adults with autism or special educational needs.
- Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders, including the diverse range of characteristics and support strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues.
- Patience, flexibility, and a calm demeanour, able to adapt to the varying needs and behaviours of students.
- Experience in creating and implementing structured, visually-supported learning environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficient in maintaining accurate records and documentation related to student progress and support.
- Relevant qualifications in education, special education, or a related field are desirable.
