 Project Design Engineer – Motorsport Systems

Location: Warwickshire Type: Permanent, full time Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience

Overview A specialist engineering company operating at the forefront of motorsport and high-performance vehicle development is seeking a Project Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex mechanical systems and components from concept through to production. The successful candidate will work on advanced vehicle systems used in top-tier motorsport programmes and high-performance automotive applications, contributing to both new product development and engineering improvement initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

Engineering and Design

  • Design and development of mechanical components and assemblies suitable for production environments

  • Concept and detailed design of vehicle systems and associated components

  • Support research and development activities, including prototype design and validation

  • Produce engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation

  • Design fixtures, tooling, and development rigs to support testing and manufacturing

  • Support development testing activities and data evaluation as part of engineering programmes

Project Delivery

  • Manage engineering activities from concept through prototype build and production release

  • Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated engineering documentation

  • Provide technical oversight across project lifecycles, ensuring designs meet performance and manufacturing requirements

  • Coordinate with internal teams to support timely and successful project delivery

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a technical interface between internal engineering teams, suppliers, and external partners

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within engineering processes and product development

Candidate Requirements

Education

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

Technical Skills

  • Experience with 3D CAD systems such as Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar parametric CAD tools

  • Ability to carry out basic analysis using CAD-integrated tools such as FEA or kinematics

  • Comfortable working with engineering data and analysis tools including Excel

Experience and Attributes

  • Strong mechanical design and engineering fundamentals

  • Experience working on mechanical systems or complex assemblies

  • Good project coordination and organisational skills

  • Strong problem-solving capability and attention to detail

  • Ability to take ownership of engineering tasks and deliver results

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to fluid systems, hydraulic systems, or dynamic mechanical components

  • Experience within motorsport, automotive, or high-performance engineering environments

  • Familiarity with prototype development and testing processes
