Project Engineer (Automation and Controls)

Location:Bridgwater

Hours:37 hours per week, Days with flexible working hours

Salary:45,000 +benefits (including 4% bonus), 25 days holiday and pension

Key Responsibilities of a Project Engineer (Automation and Controls):

  • Act as the site expert for industrial control systems, automation and operational technology
  • Support, troubleshoot and enhance automated PLC-based and data acquisition equipment
  • Work closely with automation partners and internal teams to maintain and improve control systems
  • Lead automation and operational technology projects from concept and specification through to commissioning and production support
  • Develop and maintain project documentation and technical records
  • Analyse and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, quality and safety
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production and quality teams to deliver site improvement initiatives

Key Skills of a Project Engineer (Automation and Controls):

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of PLC and HMI programming, ideally Siemens or Mitsubishi systems
  • Experience with industrial automation and control systems
  • Knowledge of robotics integration (ABB, Kawasaki or similar) would be advantageous
  • Experience with control panel wiring and industrial control devices
  • Understanding of CNC machining processes and manufacturing environments
  • Experience using CAD software such as Autodesk or SolidWorks
  • Understanding of machinery safety standards including EN 13849
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and project management skills
  • Proficient with MS Office and engineering documentation
