Principal Software Engineer (Go / Microservices)

J&T Recruitment has been exclusively retained by a high-growth FinTech company in Bristol to appoint a Principal Software Engineer to lead the development of highly scalable microservices powering next-generation financial products.

Salary

£115,000 – £165,000 base + bonus + equity

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable microservices using Go
• Lead architectural decisions across backend systems
• Mentor and support senior and mid-level engineers
• Build resilient distributed systems
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to deliver new platform capabilities

Requirements

• 7+ years software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Go, distributed systems, and microservices
• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Cloud experience (AWS preferred)
• Strong leadership and architectural design skills

Interview Process

1. Recruiter Introduction – 30 minutes Overview of the role via J&T Recruitment and discussion of architecture experience.
2. Technical Coding Interview – 60 minutes Backend coding and distributed systems problem solving.
3. Microservices Architecture Interview – 90 minutes Designing scalable backend platforms and event-driven systems.
4. Technical Leadership Interview – 60 minutes Discussion around mentoring engineers and technical leadership.
5. Executive Interview – 45 minutes Final discussion with the CTO or Head of Engineering.
