About us

The Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC) is an internationally unique research centre for clinical cardiac and brain research in the emergency setting. The Centre opened formally in 2011. AMIIC comprises a state‑of‑the‑art photon‑counting CT scanner conjoined to an invasive angiography laboratory/theatre and accommodates the work of an interactive consortium of clinical investigators from University Departments and the NHS in both heart and brain specialties. AMIIC focuses primarily on clinical research studies in patients with acute vascular syndromes, and develops and implements advanced imaging methods, especially CT. The Radcliffe Department of Medicine takes lead responsibility for the Centre, including its administration, with close links to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. AMIIC is a dedicated clinical research centre.

The AMIIC team consists of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, post‑doc scientists, DPhil students, technicians, radiographers, nurses and physiologists, all critically important for the functionality of the team, due to their complementary skills. The team is led by Professor Charalambos Antoniades, and it is supported by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) through the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), the British Heart Foundation and other funding bodies.
