Maths Graduate – Academic Mentor | Whitehaven

Are you a Mathematics or STEM graduate looking for a meaningful way to utilize your degree? We are seeking sharp, enthusiastic individuals to join secondary school departments in Whitehaven as Maths Academic Mentors .

In this role, you will be the bridge between complex equations and student understanding, helping young people build the confidence they need to succeed in their GCSEs and beyond.

Pay & Flexibility

  • Daily Rate: £95 – £110 per day (Competitive specialist rate).

  • Direct PAYE: No umbrella companies or hidden fees. We handle your tax and NI directly for a transparent, reliable paycheck.

  • Your Schedule: Choose from Full-Time consistency or Part-Time flexibility (1-4 days per week). Ideal for those exploring teaching or balancing further studies.

The Role: Impacting the Classroom

As an Academic Mentor, you will be an active part of the Maths department’s success:

  • Targeted Interventions: Lead small-group sessions for students who need extra help with core mathematical concepts.

  • GCSE Coaching: Work 1-to-1 with Year 11 students to refine their exam techniques and problem-solving skills.

  • Classroom Presence: Assist the Lead Teacher by providing real-time support during lessons, helping to keep students on task and motivated.

  • STEM Advocacy: Share your enthusiasm for the subject, showing students how Maths opens doors to careers in engineering, technology, and science.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education: A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering , or a related STEM field.

  • Communication: The ability to explain “why” things work in a way that resonates with 11-16-year-olds.

  • Aspiration: This is the perfect role for anyone considering a PGCE or a future in educational leadership.

  • Compliance: An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
