A leading global insurance organisation is seeking an experienced Data Governance & Data Quality Manager to join its London-based Data Office on a 9-month fixed-term contract.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Data Governance, you will play a key role in developing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance and data quality strategies.
You will lead initiatives that define governance standards, embed best practices, and improve data quality processes across business units, helping the organisation maximise the value of its data while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance
- Lead the design and delivery of projects that establish and strengthen the enterprise Data Governance Framework.
- Develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and processes aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Ensure consistent management and oversight of data across the organisation.
- Collaborate with business and technology teams to enhance data governance tools and capabilities.
- Establish and maintain clear data ownership and stewardship structures, including Data Owners and Data Stewards.
- Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on data governance practices, data usage and data management.
- Develop and deliver data literacy and awareness initiatives to promote a data-driven culture.
Data Quality
- Design and implement the organisation’s Data Quality Framework and strategy.
- Define and standardise data quality metrics and reporting across key datasets.
- Establish processes to identify, assess, report and remediate data quality issues.
- Develop a structured data quality reporting framework to drive improvements in governance and operational processes.
- Identify root causes of data quality issues and implement long-term solutions.
- Create a risk-based approach to monitoring and prioritising data quality improvements.
- Support alignment between data quality initiatives and broader organisational frameworks such as Operational Resilience and IT strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with business units to ensure effective adoption of governance practices.
- Act as the key liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Establish a network of data governance and data quality subject matter experts across the organisation.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in data governance, data management or data quality, ideally within insurance or financial services.
- Experience working in a senior or leadership role within a data function.
- Solid understanding of governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or ISO 8000.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements including GDPR, Solvency II and IFRS 17.
- Experience implementing data quality frameworks, monitoring processes and remediation strategies.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality tools, metadata management platforms, and data controls.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and deliver practical solutions.
