CNC Machine Operator
Location: East Lothian
We’re seeking a practical and reliable Machine Operator to join a busy workshop team, working with large, industrial CNC machines.
Please note: This is not a programming role.
The CNC machines are used for cutting, punching, and drilling structural steel, with programs prepared by the in-house detailing team. As the operator, your focus will be on running the machines safely, ensuring the correct material is loaded, and verifying that parts match the engineering drawings and program specifications.
If you enjoy hands-on work, collaborating in a busy workshop environment, and working with large-scale equipment, this could be an excellent opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Operate large CNC steel processing machines
Ensure the correct job runs on the correct material
Check measurements and quality as parts are produced
Use overhead cranes and handling equipment safely
Work closely with supervisors and fabricators
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace
Note: The role involves practical workshop tolerances. You will not be writing programs or editing code—the focus is on safe operation, attention to detail, and consistent output.
Candidate Requirements
Experience operating machinery in a workshop or manufacturing environment
Comfortable handling structural steel or heavy materials
Strong attention to detail
Reliable and safety-focused
Flexible for day, night, and weekend shifts
Previous CNC experience is advantageous, but candidates who have worked with other machinery and are eager to learn are encouraged to apply. Attitude and reliability are as important as experience.
Pay & Employment Details
Day shift: £20 per hour
Night shift: £26 per hour
Overtime: Enhanced rates available
Payment via CIS or umbrella
The role may become permanent after a successful 13-week probation period
