Quantity Surveyor – Highways Project (Earthworks & Drainage)
Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Contract Length: 2 Years Rate: 450 per day (CIS or Ltd Company) Working Pattern: Full-time, site-based
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major highways infrastructure project based in Aylesbury. The role will focus heavily on earthworks and drainage packages, so demonstrable experience in these areas on highways schemes is essential. This is a long-term contract opportunity offering stability on a high-profile project, working as part of a commercial team to ensure cost control, value management, and contractual compliance throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing all commercial aspects of earthworks and drainage packages
- Preparing, submitting, and negotiating interim valuations and final accounts
- Administering contracts (NEC experience preferred)
- Identifying, valuing, and managing variations and change control
- Cost forecasting, budgeting, and reporting to senior management
- Managing subcontractor procurement, payments, and accounts
- Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and project procedures
- Supporting risk and opportunity management processes
- Liaising closely with site teams, engineers, and project managers
- Assisting with commercial strategy and value engineering initiatives
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on major highways projects
- Strong background in earthworks and drainage packages (essential)
- Good working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 preferred)
- Experience managing subcontractors and commercial reporting
- Strong understanding of cost management and forecasting
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting tools
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar (or equivalent experience)
Desirable Experience
- Experience on large-scale UK infrastructure schemes (e.g. National Highways projects)
- Previous experience working for a Tier 1 or major civil engineering contractor
- Familiarity with CEMAR or similar contract management systems
- Membership or working towards RICS
