Senior Network Engineer

Opticore IT are currently searching for a Senior Network Engineer to work on the design and implementation of low-latency network projects within client data centre environments across multiple exchanges. This opportunity is working for a major Financial Services client. Opticore IT is a specialist Network Engineer and Project Management consultancy offering a wide variety of opportunities to work within fast-paced, challenging environments across our client base spanning multiple sectors including Finance, Broadcast Media, Telecommunications and more.

This opportunity is based on site 4 days a week in Central London.

What you'll be doing:

• You’ll be working in a complex, multi-vendor environment, ideally including Cisco and Arista platforms.
• Working in a co-location (Co-Lo) or data centre environment, including hands‑on rack-and‑stack, cross‑connects and vendor coordination.
• Design, build, and support high‑performance, low‑latency network infrastructure within colocation environments.
• Maintain and evolve global WAN and cloud connectivity solutions.
• Configure and troubleshoot multicast and low‑latency network environments.
• Implement and support timing solutions (GPS, PTP, NTP, PPS).
• Deploy and manage packet capture and monitoring solutions; perform packet analysis.
• Support exchange colocation connectivity for market data and order entry.
• Drive automation using modern tooling and scripting.

What you’ll bring:

• Strong hands‑on experience with routing and switching in a complex, multi‑vendor environment
• Solid understanding of core networking concepts including BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, QoS and troubleshooting at Layer 2/3.
• Previous exposure working in a CoLo Environment
• Previous experience with Automation
