Head of Commercial Real Estate Debt – Europe

A well-capitalised institutional investor backed by insurance capital is seeking a senior professional to lead its Commercial Real Estate Debt activities across the UK and Europe. The role will focus on originating, structuring, and managing senior real estate lending investments while contributing to the continued growth of an established institutional credit platform.

The position offers the opportunity to shape lending strategy, develop borrower relationships, and oversee a portfolio of debt investments within a long-term institutional capital environment focused on disciplined credit underwriting and stable income generation.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the origination, structuring, and execution of senior commercial real estate lending transactions across UK and European markets
• Build and maintain relationships with borrowers, sponsors, intermediaries, and advisory partners to support transaction sourcing
• Assess lending opportunities through credit underwriting, financial modelling, and asset-level analysis
• Structure and negotiate loan terms, covenant packages, and capital structures aligned with portfolio risk parameters
• Oversee the monitoring and performance of the loan portfolio, including covenant compliance and credit risk management
• Work closely with internal investment, risk, legal, and capital teams throughout the transaction lifecycle
• Present investment recommendations and portfolio updates to internal committees and senior management
• Provide leadership within the credit platform, supporting the development of team members and contributing to the strategic direction of the lending strategy

Candidate Profile

• Proven track record of originating and executing senior real estate lending transactions across UK and European markets
• Strong expertise in credit underwriting, loan structuring, and portfolio risk management
• Experience within insurance-backed lending platforms, banks, or institutional real estate debt investors
• Established network across borrowers, sponsors, intermediaries, and advisory firms
• Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience guiding teams or leading complex investment processes
• Strong commercial judgement with the ability to assess risk and return across complex transactions
• Fluent English required; additional European languages advantageous
