We are supporting a growing consultancy in Derby in their search for a Project Engineer / Civil Design Engineer to join their expanding infrastructure and energy team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with 2-3 years’ experience who is looking to combine strong technical design skills with a clear pathway into Project Management, working on cutting‑edge substation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
You will be involved in the delivery of civil engineering packages on major energy infrastructure projects, supporting both design development and project coordination. The role offers a balanced mix of technical input and project‑facing responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and delivery of civil works for substation and BESS projects
- Support the management of project programmes, budgets, and resources
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders
- Contribute to project planning, reporting, and risk management
- Work within and support the administration of NEC Contracts
- Ensure timely and high‑quality project delivery
About You
- 2-3 years’ experience in civil engineering, ideally within a consultancy environment
- Experience in civil design, with exposure to project coordination or delivery
- Interest in developing a career in Project Management
- Understanding of, or experience working with, NEC Contracts
- Strong communication, organisation, and problem‑solving skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach
Desirable
- Experience working on energy, utilities, substation, or BESS projects
- Familiarity with UK infrastructure standards and design practices
