An exciting opportunity has arisen for two committed individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join our Finance Team in Adult Social Services. The role sits in our Financial Assessment Team; we work with vulnerable adults who are 18 and over who require a care package to be delivered in the community in which they live or in a care home. The Independent Living Officers are responsible for financially assessing and supporting service users and their families/representatives when accessing support services
It is a pivotal team in the department ensuring we provide the correct support and financial information in accordance with legislation and guidance at a critical time to our service users
About the job
You will be required to collect financial information, carry out financial assessments and provide guidance on charges and processes in line with legislation. You will feedback your outcomes to service users and families/representatives to ensure understanding of our processes and charges. Ensuring support is provided at each step and signposting to other support services when identified.
You will work closely with all parts of the Finance Team, social work teams, and team managers to support timely placement of care packages. A number of software packages are utilised to support this process, and full training will be given to the successful applicant.
The posts are 37 hours per week, working 8.30 to 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30 to 4.30 on a Friday and are currently funded for 1 year from 1 st April 2026 to 31st March 2027.
We primarily work from home; the role also requires visits to services user homes and or family homes to help support the collection of information and support to services users with charging requirements. There is also some hybrid working with days in the office at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff when required.
IT equipment for home working is provided.
What We Are Looking For From You
You will therefore need to demonstrate excellent customer care skills, clear verbal and written communication skills, proven IT skills, the ability to produce accurate work and have proven organisational skills.
The work involves a range of tasks, and you would need to be willing to work flexibly as part of a team, able to work under pressure in a busy environment, and be committed to provide the best service possible to meet changing customer needs. The ability to use Welsh in the workplace would also be desirable.
