Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Have you got Solidworks and sheet metal design experience? A well-established international engineering company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team.

The Role

You will take a key role in the design and development of mechanical systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams—including electrical, systems and software engineers—you will help deliver high-performance engineered solutions for customers around the globe.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate customer requirements into clear mechanical specifications and designs
• Produce 3D CAD models in SolidWorks, particularly sheet-metal designs
• Structure and manage design data within PDM systems
• Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure designs are safe, practical and cost-effective
• Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to support construction and product development
• Help solve complex design and manufacturing challenges within the engineering team
• Present design concepts and assist with prototype development and testing
• Produce detailed mechanical design documentation including layout drawings and calculations
• Resolve design issues during fabrication, testing, production and service stages
• Ensure designs are delivered on schedule with accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Maintain documentation to meet customer, company and regulatory standards
• Stay current with modern manufacturing techniques and drawing standards

Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with SolidWorks (sheet-metal design)
• Knowledge of PDM systems; FEA experience advantageous
• Experience with shipping container or control panel design desirable
• Experience with welded assemblies and cable routing beneficial
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Strong technical and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical concepts clearly
• Familiarity with BOM structures and Microsoft Office
