Look no further! We have a fantastic opportunity for a Tenancy Relations Officer to join our team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Stockton Borough Council is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated Tenancy Relations Officer to help protect private rented sector tenants, tackle poor landlord practices and ensure residents can live safely and securely in their homes.

Please note this is a Fixed Term role to cover a period of three years.

This new role has been created to support the changes introduced by the Renters Rights Act 2025. You will work closely with Housing Options, Legal Services, the Private Sector Housing team, Trading Standards and other key partners to investigate and resolve tenancy-related complaints.

The role will require you to:

  • Develop a strong understanding of tenancy law and associated enforcement, including the Renters Rights Act 2025.
  • Create and develop new procedures and practices within the council to support effective and consistent enforcement.
  • Investigate complaints and conduct property visits.
  • Advise and support tenants through advocacy and casework.
  • Work with landlords, letting agents, and stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Take enforcement action when necessary to uphold tenants’ rights and prevent homelessness.

You’ll be part of the homeless, lettings and nominations team who facilitate and provide active support and mediation services to tenants and landlords in the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with housing legislation and promoting good tenancy relations.
