Programme Manager – Construction Information Technology Group

Applications are invited for a Programme Manager to take overall responsibility for the administration of the grants and associated human, physical and digital resources of the Construction Information Technology (CIT) Group led by Professor Ioannis Brilakis. The Programme Manager is supported by a Programme Coordinator, a Project Manager for the EPSRC Digital Roads Prosperity Partnership and a Senior Project Manager for the MSCA FUTUREROADS Fellowships COFUND.

Grant portfolio

The CIT Group currently leads or is involved in £65M of major and minor grants, including the Digital Roads of the Future initiative (the EPSRC Digital Roads Prosperity Partnership and the MSCA FUTUREROADS Fellowships COFUND), EU grants AEGIR, BUILDSPACE, D‑HYDROFLEX, several i‑CASE PhD studentships, etc. Together, they employ over 50 staff and students. The Programme Manager will liaise and coordinate with the administrative staff in the Laing O’Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology, the Future Infrastructure and the Built Environment Centres for Doctoral Training, and the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction.

Location and day‑to‑day responsibilities

Based at the Department’s Civil Engineering Building in West Cambridge, the Programme Manager will manage the administration of grant operations, ensuring the delivery of day‑to‑day financial, IT, commercial, operational and logistical activities and that all statutory reporting requirements are met. The role also includes managing relationships with funding bodies, supporting applications, reporting, communications and change control to enable effective oversight by grant governance structures.

Leadership and coverage

By leading the administrative decision‑making and collaborating with industry partners, other Centres and groups, the Programme Manager will provide specialist services to support research and training activities in Division D. The role-holder will also cover for the Director of the Construction IT Laboratory as appropriate.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in management, engineering, science or a relevant discipline. Post‑graduate experience, education and training in project management are desirable. Preferably, candidates have previous administrative or project‑management experience in a research‑related role within a university environment. Excellent interpersonal, networking and communications skills, high‑level relationship management skills, and the necessary budget and programme management skills are essential. Experience and knowledge of the construction industry and of working at the industry/academic interface would be advantageous.

Commitment

Fixed‑term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2028 in the first instance.
