Job Title: Behavior Support Worker – Primary Alternative Education ProvisionLocation: Newport, GwentSalary: From £93 daily rate

Start date: ASAP

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavior Support Worker to join our team within a Primary Alternative Education Provision in Newport, Gwent. The successful candidate will support a child of primary age who experiences escalations in behavior and presents as a flight risk. This is a rewarding and impactful role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the child in managing behavior and de-escalating situations when needed.

  • Implement strategies to prevent challenging behavior and ensure the child's safety, especially in moments of escalation.

  • Work closely with teaching staff and senior support workers to create a consistent approach to behavior management.

  • Encourage the child’s emotional and social development by providing positive reinforcement and tailored support.

  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, behavior patterns, and progress.

  • Be proactive in safeguarding the child’s well-being and maintaining a positive and nurturing environment.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements:

  • DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one through our support).

  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

  • In-date Safeguarding certificate (training can be provided if required).

  • Previous experience supporting children with behavioral needs or in a similar role is highly desirable, but not essential.

  • A caring, patient, and calm demeanor, with an ability to respond to challenging situations in a sensitive and effective way.

  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team and communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience in de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies.

  • Familiarity with special educational needs (SEN) and how to provide tailored support for children with additional needs.
