The Telegraph’s Commercial Design & Development team is looking for a Lead Digital Developer to lead a small team of digital designers and help deliver story‑led creative experiences across our digital platforms.
You’ll work on high‑impact projects including long reads, AMP stories and other innovative formats, ensuring everything we produce meets the highest creative and technical standards.
This role combines hands‑on development with team leadership. You’ll support and guide a talented group of designers while working closely with colleagues across the commercial organisation to bring ideas to life.
We’re looking for someone with strong development skills, a good eye for visual and UX design, and the confidence to contribute to creative discussions, brainstorms and presentations. Attention to detail and a passion for innovative digital storytelling are key.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support a small team of digital designers, helping them develop their design and development skills and confidence across Commercial projects.
- Design and develop digital campaign components, including bespoke long‑form content and other story‑led formats that require custom development.
- Continuously review and refine creative output to improve campaign performance and user experience.
- Take ownership of projects from concept through to final delivery, ensuring work is produced to a high standard and delivered on time.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on your team’s work in a collaborative and timely way.
- Attend internal meetings to understand campaign objectives, contribute creative ideas, and present design and UX approaches where needed.
- Work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure projects are delivered smoothly and on schedule.
- Keep up to date with emerging design and development trends, helping to shape new ideas and formats for future campaigns.
Qualifications and Experience
- A strong portfolio showcasing a range of digital development work.
- Solid knowledge of web technologies, digital design trends and best practice for building and delivering online experiences.
- Strong understanding of responsive design and how to implement it effectively across devices.
