Role Overview: Medical Director
The Medical Director will provide clinical and operational leadership for post‑acute care services in Portsmouth, VA. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to influence care delivery, mentor clinical staff, and partner with facility leadership to improve resident outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic clinical leadership and vision for medical services across assigned facilities
- Ensure delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centered care in post‑acute and long‑term care settings
- Collaborate with nursing and facility leadership to develop and implement clinical policies and protocols
- Lead quality improvement activities, monitor clinical performance metrics and implement corrective action as needed
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards and best practice guidelines
- Support multidisciplinary care planning, participate in case reviews and provide physician mentorship
- Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for accurate documentation, reporting and continuity of care
- Provide timely medical oversight for acute clinical changes and escalation decisions
Qualifications And Required Skills
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Board‑certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or related specialty
- Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license and current DEA registration
- Proven clinical experience in post‑acute, long‑term care, geriatrics or a related field preferred
- Previous leadership or medical director experience desirable
- Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills
- Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and evidence‑based practice
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems
