Senior Project Design Engineer

The Senior Project Design Engineeris responsible fordelivering aerospace sealing projects from RFQ through to production implementation.

The role combines design-to-specification capability, preparation of detailed technical proposals,including preliminary sealing designs and qualification plans,andtechnical coordination of project activities to ensure compliant,manufacturableand commercially aligned solutions.

Working closely with the Technical Manager and cross-functional teams,whilst interacting directly with customers and suppliers.The post-holder ensures projects are technically robust, meet customerrequirementsand are executed in line with business capability and regulatory standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Lead projects from conceptthrough toimplementation, including prototypes, new products, processes, equipmentand materials.
• Develop and manage detailed project plans,identifyingactivities,resourcesand risks, providing structured updates to management and highlighting constraintsimpactingdelivery.
• Compile and take ownership of detailed technical proposals at RFQ stage, including preliminary sealing designs, specification compliance statements, material selection rationale, technical risk assessments, and structured qualification and certification packages aligned to customer and regulatory requirements.
• Lead technical discussions during RFQ and pre-contract stages, working closely with customers to define requirements andagreetechnical solutions.
• Provide regular technical communication and progress updates to customers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and manage project budgets, ensuringappropriate selectionof materials, treatments,toolingand manufacturing methods to meet technical and costobjectives(in collaboration with Commercial/Application Engineering).
• Generate and oversee engineering activities arising from enquiry packages, including preliminary design concepts, tooling requirements, process capability assessment, resourceevaluationand product/material qualification planning.
• Ensureall engineering requirements are defined and executed in line with NPI processes and customer expectations.
• Prepare and lead internal and external Design Reviewsin accordance withbusiness and customer requirements.
• Identify,assessand mitigate technical risks early in the project lifecycle.
• Act as technical authority for material and process qualifications, approvals and resolution of process-related issues or non-conformances, both internally and with customers.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, AS9100, military/ITAR and customer regulatory requirements.
• Maintain awareness of developments in production technology,materialsand industry best practice relevant to aerospace sealing.

QUALIFICATIONSAND SKILLS

• Degree in Materials or Engineering discipline, or HNC plus equivalent experience of the following.
• Experiencedelivering engineering projects within an aerospace or regulated environment.
• Product development and implementation experience
• Strong understandingof Aerospace sealing concepts and applications
• Knowledge of polymers (especially elastomers),processingand equipment
• Familiarity with AS9100, ISO9001, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing
• ExperiencewithCAD and generating models, drawings,plus other Engineering activities such as technical reviews,material/part qualification/certification plans and reports
• Design for Manufacture(DFM)experience
• Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for seal performance,deformationor stress evaluation
• Strongproblem-solvingabilities
• Experience contributing to technical proposals,qualificationor certification plans
• Commercial awareness when contributing to technically complex RFQ responses
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Knowledge ofelastomeric,compositeand metallic materials
