On site in West Sussex

Our client, a leading consultancy in the automotive sector, is currently seeking a Mechanical Development Engineer to join their team. This contract role demands a solid understanding of automotive components, systems, and associated vehicle parts.

Proven Powertrain experience is essential and ideally knowledge on transmissions. The role involves close collaboration with OEMs, suppliers, and test, design, and analysis teams to define testing plans, analyse results, and recommend design changes. Projects may require working independently or as part of a cross-functional international team.

Key Responsibilities:

Managing teams and preparing proposalsUnderstanding product development processes for powertrains and transmissionsDeveloping system and component specificationsConducting rig and system validation testingUtilising instrumentation and data capture toolsConducting FMEAs and preparing DVPs (Design Validation Plans)Employing structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, DAMAIC)Preparing and executing test procedures and post-test teardownsApplying metrology skillsHandling component manufacturing, supplier liaison, and design release processesTest planning, execution, and reportingInterfacing with engineering teams and specialists

Job Requirements:

Strong understanding of powertrain systems, their components, and functional requirementsExperience in the automotive engineering sectorAbility to apply fundamental engineering principles to practical problemsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong PC and presentation skillsTechnical task management of projects and engineersWillingness to travel and work on client sites as requiredUnderstanding of CAE and CFD techniquesFamiliarity with engine component and system design for both gasoline and diesel enginesGood project management skills

Qualification:
