Alexander Steele are working in partnership with a multi-site food manufacturing business which are looking to recruit a Controls Engineer to join their team.
The ideal candidate is a controls and automations specialist with experience working in a fast paced environment.
- Own and maintain site-wide control systems – Support and manage multiple PLCs and HMI platforms across production lines, ensuring systems are robust, backed up, and fully recoverable.
- Diagnose and resolve automation faults – Provide hands‑on troubleshooting and fault finding across PLCs, drives, networks, and associated hardware to minimise downtime and maximise line efficiency.
- Manage automation hardware and integration – Oversee inverters, servo drives, communication networks (e.g. Profibus/Ethernet) and control components, ensuring seamless system integration and performance.
- Lead obsolescence and critical spares management – Proactively identify at-risk components, secure replacement parts, and future‑proof legacy systems to protect operational continuity.
- Support projects and continuous improvement – Build, test and modify PLC hardware, produce electrical CAD drawings for upgrades, and collaborate with production teams on line improvement initiatives.
- Ensure documentation and system integrity – Maintain accurate backups, version control records, and technical documentation to support resilience, compliance, and long‑term maintainability.
