As the company’s Health & Safety Lead, you will drive continuous improvement of health & safety and statutory property compliance across our estate. Working collaboratively across the business, you will help ensure Harvey Nichols remains a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for our colleagues, visitors, and customers.
About The Role
Leadership & Expertise
- Act as the company’s competent person for health & safety.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the safety management system.
- Provide expert, commercially minded fire safety advice and support the company in fulfilling obligations and duties.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance against all statutory property areas, including fire safety, asbestos, legionella, lifts, gas, and electrical safety.
- Develop, review, and manage health & safety policies, standards, procedures, and guidance, including document control.
- Oversee incident reporting and investigations; ensure regulatory notifications are made when required.
- Partner with Legal and insurers to manage and mitigate claims.
Training, Engagement & Support
- Assess training needs and deliver health & safety and fire safety training across the business.
- Maintain the intranet as an accessible resource for health & safety guidance.
- Establish effective health & safety consultation mechanisms at site and group level.
- Provide coaching and one‑to‑one support to store leadership and managers.
- Work closely with Head Office teams (VM, Store Planning, Concessions, Events etc.) to ensure safe operational delivery.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Conduct audits and support visits across all sites.
- Produce regular performance metrics (monthly, quarterly, annually) for senior management to inform decision‑making.
- Respond promptly to incidents and support crisis management activities.
- Manage relationships with external partners and service providers.
About Your Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Fire safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or Level 4 equivalent) and practical experience in complex retail/hospitality environments.
- Membership of IOSH (CertIOSH or above) with up to date CPD.
- Extensive post‑qualification experience in a large, multi‑site, premium/luxury retail environment.
- Strong understanding of statutory property compliance requirements.
- Proven experience influencing and partnering effectively at all levels.
