Business Data Reporting Analyst – Permanent – £50,000

Join us and be part of a mission-driven, independent publisher. You’ll work with a diverse group of people who share a passion for empowering researchers, educators, and institutions to shape the future.

About Sage

Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.

Our Guaranteed Independence Means We’re Free To

  • Do more– supporting an equitable academic future, furthering disciplines that drive social change, and helping social and behavioural science make an impact
  • Work together– building lasting relationships, championing diverse perspectives, and co‑creating resources to transform teaching and learning
  • Think long‑term– experimenting, taking risks, and investing in new ideas

About Our Team

You’ll be joining a small, growing team of three who sit at the heart of Sage’s global Research Pillar Editorial function. The team partners closely with colleagues across Editorial, Open Access Operations, Production, and our wider data community to bring clarity, insight and confidence to decision‑making. Their purpose is simple but powerful: to transform complex data into meaningful stories that help our publishing teams understand performance, spot opportunities, and remove bottlenecks. As the team expands, so does its ambition, to elevate data culture, modernise reporting, and empower colleagues with intuitive analytics.

Could you be our new Business Data Reporting Analyst? Are you?

  • Someone who thrives in collaboration to create clear, user‑friendly reports and visualisations?
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office 365, with strong Excel capabilities and hands‑on experience in Power BI, DAX, and Power Query?
  • Confident working with structured and unstructured data, and ideally familiar with SQL servers and API integrations?
  • Experienced in applying analytical thinking to real‑world business problems, ideally in a data‑focused role?
  • An effective communicator, able to translate complex information into accessible insights for colleagues at all levels?
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously?
  • Comfortable navigating competing priorities and negotiating with stakeholders?
  • Curious about publishing workflows or eager to learn with an interest in how data can illuminate performance, revenue opportunities, and process bottlenecks?
  • Motivated by problem solving, continuous learning, and the fulfilment of delivering data insights that make a real difference?

Your New Role

As our Business Data Reporting Analyst, you’ll play a key role in shaping how data is used, understood, and valued across the Editorial departments. You’ll build, maintain, and evolve reporting solutions that illuminate the full publishing journey and help teams make informed, timely decisions. No two days look the same: one moment you’re solving a data puzzle, the next you’re designing a Power BI dashboard that becomes crucial to a publisher’s workflow. You can expect support as you grow, with opportunities to take ownership of products, deepen your technical skills, and develop your voice as an analytical storyteller.

  • Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards and reporting solutions so Editorial teams can quickly understand journal performance and make confident, data‑driven decisions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of internal and external data channels to ensure every report is accurate, consistent, and trusted across the organisation.
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing reports to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and create more reliable, automated insights.
  • Partner with Editorial and core publishing teams to design strategic reporting that supports portfolio growth, operational efficiency, and long‑term planning.
  • Prioritise and manage multiple data requests to deliver high quality insights that arrive on time and support colleagues when they need them most.
  • Document and refine reporting processes to strengthen data integrity and create smoother, more efficient ways of working across the Pillar.
  • Deliver training and support to business users so colleagues feel confident using data tools and empowered to explore insights independently.
  • Contribute to global analytics communities to share knowledge, improve data culture, and help build guidelines across Sage.

Overview Of Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) with 2 additional floating personal days.
  • Hybrid working up to 2 days per week in office and a home working allowance.
  • Life assurance, income protection, and travel insurance.
  • Private medical cover and access to the company doctor.
  • Tuition scheme and support for pursuing professional qualifications, including access to Sage books and journals.
  • Variety of snacks and beverages available in the office.
  • Healthy lifestyle reimbursement and anniversary trips.
  • Access to Company loans (season ticket loan, rental deposit loan, cycle loan).
