Geriatric, Acute and General Medicine Post (50% Geriatric Medicine + 50% Acute & General Medicine) – Hampstead site, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

Overview

The role is a full‑time consultant position within the Department of Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP). The post combines 50% Geriatric Medicine with 50% Acute & General Medicine, focusing on delivering a consultant‑led liaison service to frail and complex patients on the HSEP ward and expanding the frailty liaison service.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant‑led liaison care to frail and complex patients on the HSEP ward and develop the frailty liaison service.
• Deliver clinical supervision and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
• Collaborate closely with Acute Medicine colleagues and the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to the Acute Medicine duty rota, primarily on the new 54‑bed Acute Medicine Unit, covering Acute Medicine take shifts, Same Day Emergency Clinic (SDEC) and the Adult Assessment Unit (AAU).
• Support acute unscheduled admissions via the Emergency Department (ED) and primary care referrals.
• Provide out‑of‑hours and weekend cover on a 1:12 basis for long days and approximately 1:12 for short days.

Qualifications

• Eligibility and suitable experience in Geriatric Medicine.
• Eligibility and suitable experience in General Internal Medicine (GIM).
• Consultant‑level competence with a proven track record in acute and general medicine.
