Salary: Up to £70,000 plus bonuses
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Health & Safety Associate Director to join a well-established and expanding environmental consultancy and asbestos removal business. This position will play a key role in fostering a culture built on trust, openness and engagement, while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and industry standards. You will proactively manage and reduce risk, prevent incidents, and champion continuous improvement in Health & Safety practices across the organisation.
The role:
- Develop, implement and oversee Health & Safety standards, processes, training programmes, systems and communications across the business.
- Ensure a current, appropriate and widely understood Health & Safety policy is in place and embedded throughout the organisation.
- Maintain a safe working environment, free from risks to health, including safe plant, machinery, and the safe handling, storage and movement of equipment and substances.
- Ensure adequate first-aid provision, welfare facilities and employee support are in place at all times.
- Provide up to date Health & Safety information, instruction and supervision to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Lead timely and thorough risk assessments, implementing appropriate control measures and monitoring their effectiveness.
- Oversee emergency procedures, safety signage, PPE provision, incident reporting processes and statutory notifications where required.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and external organisations, supporting audits, inspections and remedial actions.
- Ensure all workplaces meet required standards for ventilation, temperature, lighting and welfare facilities.
- Implement effective controls to prevent or minimise exposure to hazardous substances and risks including manual handling, electrical, noise, radiation, flammable and explosive hazards.
- Monitor, audit and report on Health & Safety performance, systems and compliance.
- Manage the Company Site Auditing Strategy and directly oversee the Site Auditor, conducting audits where necessary.
- Oversee staff inductions to ensure strong Health & Safety awareness from day one.
- Maintain and develop BSI and other relevant accreditations and compliance standards.
- Track performance against agreed standards and KPIs, taking appropriate corrective or advisory action where required.
- Monitor external regulatory and industry standards, ensuring integration within internal quality management systems.
- Develop and deliver communication strategies to improve quality and Health & Safety awareness across all departments.
- Plan and manage departmental activities in line with agreed budgets and timescales.
- Report on internal and external changes to standards and overall performance against compliance measures.
- Build effective relationships with quality and regulatory bodies (e.g. BSI, HSE, Government Departments) and manage team performance, development and conduct in line with company policies.
- Ensure departmental objectives are delivered within agreed targets, budgets, policies and governance frameworks.

- Significant experience in a senior Health & Safety leadership role, ideally within environmental services, asbestos removal, construction or a similarly regulated industry, with a proven track record of developing strategy, driving cultural change, and leading compliance across multi-site operations.
- NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals (or equivalent Level 6 qualification).
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Experience leading and developing teams, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including liaison with external regulatory bodies.
- A proactive, solutions focused approach with the ability to drive continual improvement and embed best practice.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel nationwide when required
