Director of Business Development – Electrical Services (or Senior BDM stepping up)
Location: National (field-based, with a focus on London & South East)
1-2 days per week required on site in Kent
An established and rapidly growing UK multi-service provider is seeking a high-impact Business Development leader to drive the expansion of its Electrical Services division.
This is a pivotal hire, with a clear mandate to shape and scale a growing electrical offering. The client is ideally looking for someone operating at Director level, but will also consider a top-performing Business Development Manager ready to step up into a more strategic role.
The Opportunity
Backed by significant investment and recent acquisitions, the business has built a strong national platform and is now accelerating growth within electrical compliance, maintenance, and project services.
You will take ownership of driving new revenue across:
- Electrical compliance (EICR, emergency lighting, testing)
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
- Reactive maintenance & remedials
- Small works and major electrical projects
- LED, EV and renewable solutions
This is a “build and lead” opportunity – combining hands‑on new business generation with strategic input into go‑to‑market approach, target sectors, and long‑term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Leadership
- Define and execute a growth strategy for electrical services across key UK markets
- Build a high-quality pipeline of PPM contracts, reactive maintenance agreements, and project opportunities
- Contribute to the wider commercial strategy and positioning of the electrical division
New Business Development
- Target FM providers, managing agents, property groups and multi-site clients
- Win new contracts across commercial, retail, industrial, healthcare and education sectors
- Lead tenders, frameworks and major bid submissions
Client Engagement
- Build senior relationships with decision-makers across FM and property sectors
- Present commercially robust, solution‑led proposals
- Position the business as a trusted compliance and maintenance partner
Cross‑Sell & Collaboration
- Leverage an existing national client base to unlock cross‑selling opportunities
- Work closely with operational, estimating and technical teams to deliver viable solutions
- Provide market intelligence and competitor insights to the leadership team
What We’re Looking For
Experience
- Proven track record in B2B business development within:
- Electrical compliance / M&E / building services / FM
- Demonstrated success winning multi‑site or framework contracts
- Strong understanding of electrical services such as EICR, PPM cycles, remedials and projects
Profile
- Strategic thinker with a hands‑on, “hunter” mentality
- Strong commercial awareness and consultative selling approach
- Highly driven, self‑motivated and capable of working autonomously
Ideal (but not essential)
- Experience operating at Head of / Director level
- Technical or engineering background (electrical or M&E)
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (e.g. NICEIC, BS7671)
