Clinical Nurse Specialist in Inherited Cardiac Conditions

The Barts Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) team is looking to recruit a motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our dynamic and growing team. The post-holder will work closely and collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to provide exemplary care to patients with cardiomyopathies and complex medical needs.

Main duties of the job

We serve a diverse cohort patients and their families. The post-holder will work proactively to deliver safe and effective specialist nursing care, as well as contributing to the improvement of the service and the development of this exciting speciality. Applicants must have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.

As one of the country’s leading specialist cardiac centres, aiming to be at the forefront of care provision and service design, it is expected that the post-holder will work closely with both regional and national CNSs from other Trusts, national ICC professional organisations and third-sector colleagues to provide comprehensive and holistic care for our patients.

Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12months.

Please note: When calculating the basic salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High-Cost Area Supplement) is not included for non-medical roles. This ensures fairness and consistency within ourorganization, as some of our sites fall under inner HCAS, while others are classified as outer HCAS.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse
  • Possession of a first degree
  • Possession of, or willingness to work towards, masters level study

Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience in cardiology
  • Experience of working in cardiology at band 6 level
  • Experience in the management of the acutely unwell patient
  • Experience of providing care to patients with inherited cardiomyopathies
  • Experience in the management of staff
  • Experience of audit
  • Experience of contributing to Quality Improvement and/or service improvement projects

Knowledge

  • Successful completion of a post-registration cardiology CPD module
  • Successful completion of a post-registration specialised cardiology CPD module
  • Understanding of the research process and how that contributes to improved patient care

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exemplary time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to respond to challenges in a positive and proactive way
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the MDT
  • Ability to support the development of others
