Geotechnical Director – Reading – £75,000-£80,000

An established multidisciplinary consultancy in Reading is looking to appoint a Geotechnical Director to lead technical delivery, drive business development, and oversee contractor procurement across a varied project portfolio.
This role offers a strong mix of leadership, hands‑on engineering, and commercial responsibility, with projects spanning residential developments, rail infrastructure, and sustainability‑focused schemes.
The Role
- Lead and grow the geotechnical division, setting technical standards and mentoring junior staff
- Take ownership of business development, building relationships with new and existing clientsOversee geotechnical design, including foundation solutions, ground improvement, and earthworks
- Manage procurement and coordination of ground investigation and specialist contractors
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams on residential and rail projects
- Support and contribute to sustainability‑led design approaches and low‑carbon solutions
- Play a key role in strategic planning and direction of the business
Requirements
- Strong background in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
- Proven experience in a senior or leadership role
- Track record in business development and winning work
- Solid technical design experience across residential and/or rail projects
- Experience managing contractors and overseeing site operations
- Chartered status (or working towards) preferred
