Job Description: Software Engineer (AI / Machine Learning)
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, Kings Cross)
Contract: ASAP – 6 months
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm (40 hours per week)
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer to join an advanced AI research team working on cutting‑edge machine learning systems, LLMs, and intelligent agent development. This team is focused on driving fundamental progress in AI by building scalable systems, designing new methodologies, and delivering research that directly impacts next‑generation AI technologies.
This role provides a unique opportunity to work alongside leading researchers and engineers on some of the most innovative AI projects in London.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high‑impact research to advance machine learning systems and scalable AI infrastructure.
- Design, develop, and optimise tools, pipelines, and methodologies for large language models.
- Collaborate closely with research scientists and engineering teams to deliver high‑quality research outputs.
- Communicate research plans, experimental results, and technical insights to cross‑functional partners.
- Build and evaluate LLM‑based agents across multiple project streams.
- Contribute to and maintain research codebases in Python and PyTorch.
- Support roadmap development through requirement gathering and synthesis.
Minimum Qualifications
- Machine learning
- Recommendation systems
- Pattern recognition
- Experience working with ML models at scale, including LLM querying or post‑training.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with PyTorch.
- Experience designing and executing experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
- Ability to convert research insights into actionable engineering solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or similar (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Generative AI or LLM research.
- Master’s or PhD with a research focus in machine learning or related fields.
- Exposure to advanced agent systems, reinforcement‑learning environments, or similar research areas.
- Background in physics, mathematics, quantitative fields, or applied science.
- Experience with pre‑training pipelines, agentic systems, or multi‑agent frameworks.
The role will involve hands‑on participation in advanced AI research projects such as:
- Designing and building AI agents for machine learning research and task automation.
- Contributing to multiple streams of agent development and optimisation.
- Working with open‑source frameworks and published research benchmarks (e.g., AIRS, AIRA Dojo).
- Collaborating with PhD‑level researchers and high-performing engineering teams.
- Daily interaction with research engineers, scientists, and other contractors.
- Performance measured by scientific impact and agent performance.
- High‑output culture with strong emphasis on execution and innovation.
