Sussex Equine Hospital is seeking a Senior Ambulatory Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. Based in Ashington, West Sussex, our RCVS-accredited Tier 3 Equine Hospital offers the ideal blend of countryside, coastal, and city living.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver ambulatory care to leisure and competition horses across the picturesque Sussex countryside.

Job Details

  • 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday
  • 1:4 on‑call weekend
  • A day off in lieu follows a weekend on call
  • Fully equipped vehicle will be provided.

Sussex Equine Hospital is located in Ashington in beautiful West Sussex. Explore the South Downs, relax at nearby beaches, or enjoy city life in Brighton and London with excellent train links.

You will have the support of a Tier 3 hospital with board‑certified specialists in internal medicine, theriogenology and surgery.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Primary Care Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.

You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.

Responsibilities

  • Lameness work ups
  • Prepurchase examinations
  • Medical investigations
  • Use of ultrasound, digital radiography and endoscopy.
  • Provide support, leadership and guidance to colleagues when appropriate
  • Contribute to the management, organisation and financial performance of the practice

Although you work predominantly on your own, the role encourages exchange and collaboration with all the specialists in our team. With sufficient experience and qualifications, you have the opportunity to be involved with emergency duties on four local racecourses (Goodwood, Plumpton, Brighton and Fontwell) and at FEI events in our area.

  • A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
