About this job

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Hepatology Specialist Nurse at Manchester University Foundation Trust. We have a vacancy at each site: North Manchester, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital.

The post holder will work within the Hepatology nursing team alongside consultant hepatologists and become an integral part of our workforce as part of our vision for achieving excellence. Cross‑site working may be required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Run nurse‑led hepatology clinics and deliver excellent standards of nursing care.
  • Manage the care pathway of liver patients, utilising high levels of clinical assessment, decision making, review and monitoring in partnership with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Discuss relevant changes in clinical condition with consultant hepatologists and refer to other MDT members as required.
  • Provide education for patients and carers at diagnosis and throughout their care journey, including condition and treatment options and advice on health and lifestyle.
  • Use specialist knowledge and clinical judgement to support and advise patients, carers, and the MDT via telephone or face‑to‑face.
  • Collaborate with MDT members and contribute to training and education to support colleagues in delivering specialised patient care.
  • Gain training in abdominal paracentesis as part of the Rapid Access Ascitic Drain Service (potential).
  • Work autonomously to deliver specialist hepatology clinical care, informed by research and a commitment to quality of patient care.

The role offers the chance to work within a leading provider of specialist services. We are committed to clinical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement. Working at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust means a stimulating, supportive environment where your contribution truly matters.
