Overview

Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer (Ref: 240141) – Substantive – Full Time – 36 hours per week*

Band 5 – Salary Range £34,544 – £43,039 per annum**; Distant Island Allowance of £2,578 per annum (pro rata).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day handling of FOI and Environmental Information requests, providing clear, accurate and legally compliant responses within statutory timescales.
  • Work closely with services across the organisation to identify information, apply exemptions appropriately and support staff to meet their responsibilities.
  • Contribute to transparency, accountability and good governance across NHS Shetland.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable and motivated FOI Officer with strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex information clearly.

  • Location: NHS Shetland’s Information Governance team
  • Working pattern: Full Time – 36 hours per week; note: from 1 April 2026 the Agenda for Change full-time week reduces to 36 hours; part-time hours pro-rata
  • Salary: Band 5 – £34,544 – £43,039 per annum; Distant Island Allowance £2,578 per annum (pro rata)
