Overview
The primary duties of this role are to serve as a professional general engineer, performing design, project programming and construction management tasks. You will monitor duties and improvement projects for real property facilities and infrastructure, including utility systems, and manage projects for new construction and renovations. You will maintain surveillance over construction contractors to ensure overall compliance with contract specifications and schedules. In addition, you will plan, program, budget, and execute required projects, collect data and evaluate factors that affect the application of concepts, principles, theories and methods needed to observe, examine, measure, analyze, map, and describe physical and technical features and phenomena. You will comply with health, safety and environmental rules and procedures, performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
This position is only available to UK Nationals. Applicants must hold UK citizenship and have lived in the UK for at least 8 years out of the last 10 years.
Qualifications & Key Skills
- Professional knowledge of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, principles and practices, and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
- Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials and equipment to determine compliance with all required laws and regulations, and standard contracting regulations, practices and procedures as it relates to facilities engineering.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations and current legislative issues.
- Knowledge of regulatory and statutory restrictions on different types of funding.
- Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities and economic usage, to effectively accomplish assigned functions.
- Knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budgeting systems and management.
- Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques.
- Skill in preparing project documentation, including preliminary drawings, sketches and construction drawings sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings.
- Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspections, analyze, interpret and apply results, rules, regulations and procedures in a variety of situations while recommending timely and economical solutions.
- Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to maintain good working relationships.
A valid UK driver’s license (Category B) is required.

Conditions of Employment
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an enhanced security clearance and handle sensitive information in accordance with US and UK laws.
- You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training; this position may also be coded as mission essential.
- You will be required to complete a 6‑month probationary period.
- You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Your hours of work will be 37.5 hours a week on a fixed schedule (Mon‑Fri 07:30‑16:00); start and end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organisation’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description but appropriate to the grade and skill.
- You may act as project liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies as required and serve on A&E selection boards.
