Overview

The NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) is the national body responsible for all matters relating to the prevention, detection and investigation of economic crime across the NHS. Further information about our work and annual plan for delivering this is available on our website.

Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Board Secretary in their absence across all areas of corporate governance.
  • Provide autonomous high-level comprehensive support to the Authority board and committees, advising the chairs of committees on matters of procedure and corporate governance.
  • Oversee on a day-to-day basis the administration, communication and handling of governance issues for the Authority.
  • Develop and deliver an annual programme of Authority business in consultation with the Board Secretary and chairs of relevant committees; and responsible for the quality assurance of Committee generated documentation.
  • Support the Board Secretary by developing a clear knowledge and understanding of highly complex specialist areas such as the constitutional framework, standing orders and relevant legislation, with the ability to interpret them accurately and to provide clear guidance to Executive and Non-Executive Directors on matters of significant importance.
  • Assist the Board Secretary in the comprehensive and ongoing review of relevant national governance publications that might affect the Authority, ensuring they are briefed on these matters and have regard to them when making decisions.
  • Contribute to the writing, proofreading and coordination of the publication, distribution and presentation of the annual governance statement and annual report.
  • Work with the Board Secretary in ensuring that the Authority has a robust framework for monitoring and reporting on compliance with corporate governance standards and recommended good practice.
  • Support the Board Secretary in organising the Authority’s Annual General Meeting, deputising if so required.
  • Support the Board Secretary in the application of the fit and proper persons regulations.
  • In conjunction with the Board Secretary assist in the review of the Board effectiveness and ensure that its sub-committees are managed effectively.
