Position Overview
My client in the borough of Redbridge is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in internal medicine to join its experienced medical team at their large GP hospital. The role focuses on providing valuable investigative and diagnostic support while contributing to the hospital’s high clinical standards.
The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic facilities including a CT scanner, commercial laboratory, and a highly skilled clinical team that regularly performs advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgeries on site.
The successful candidate will become part of a large and supportive multidisciplinary team consisting of approximately 25 veterinary surgeons, 27 registered veterinary nurses, 14 student nurses, 7 veterinary care assistants and a substantial front‑of‑house team. An established management structure provides further support, including a senior internal medicine vet, senior RVNs, two deputy head nurses, a head nurse, head vet and a hospital manager.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the consulting and medical rota, carrying out thorough consultations, examining patients and developing appropriate management and treatment plans based on best practice and established protocols.
- Investigate cases using diagnostic tools such as radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and blood testing, ensuring all medications are prescribed and dispensed in accordance with current legislation and professional guidelines.
- Work confidently both independently and as part of a team, recognising when to seek support from colleagues.
- Maintain a high standard of evidence‑based clinical care across the hospital.
- Contribute to a positive working environment, supporting strong teamwork and high morale.
Qualifications
- Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in internal medicine.
- Completed a relevant internal medicine certificate or currently working towards one.
- Previous experience in endoscopy and ultrasound highly beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills, client‑focused approach, sound clinical reasoning and effective time management.
Rota and Working Hours
- 6‑week rotation, averaging 40 hours per week across four days.
- 1 in 3 Saturday and 1 in 6 Sunday rotation, with up to two bank holidays per year.
- Part of the last‑resort on‑call rota, approximately once every two weeks.
Benefits
- Salary range: £55,000 to £73,000, depending on experience.
- 6.6 weeks of annual leave including bank holidays.

Location
Located on the outskirts of urban Essex, the hospital offers easy access to both the countryside and central London. The hospital is within a short walk of a Central Line station, making travel into the city extremely convenient. There is no on‑site parking, but public transport options are plentiful with nearby tube stations and bus routes.
