The Role
As a Controls Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and delivering automation solutions for a wide range of projects — from machine upgrades and modifications to fully bespoke automation systems.
This is a varied and hands-on position where you’ll take ownership of projects from initial design through to commissioning, collaborating with multiple departments to ensure high-quality, cost-effective solutions are delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the design team to develop control solutions for automation projects
- Producing detailed electrical and pneumatic schematics using AutoCAD
- Creating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and entering them into the ERP system
- Developing and programming PLC, HMI and servo control software
- Producing Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Supporting projects through manufacture, build and commissioning
- Providing regular project updates and gaining approval on new designs
- Ensuring systems are delivered efficiently, safely and to specification
Experience required
- Qualification in Electrical or Controls Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND or equivalent)
- Strong experience using AutoCAD for electrical and pneumatic schematics
- Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 and/or Siemens / Omron control platforms
- Experience designing control systems for automated manufacturing machinery
