Role Overview

The Information Governance Officer sits within the Information Governance Team, part of the Corporate Services Directorate. The role reports to the Information Governance Manager and works closely with the Data Protection Officer and the university’s Governance Office, Executive Services and Legal Services. You will liaise frequently with colleagues across Professional Services and Academic roles at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure DMU complies with obligations under the Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act, Environmental Information Regulations and the UK General Data Protection Regulation.
  • Respond to Freedom of Information, Subject Access and related requests within legislative timescales.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on a broad range of information governance matters.
  • Log and provide guidance on Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Own the investigation of data breaches.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating relevant policies and procedures.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate who holds a relevant professional information governance qualification and/or has significant experience in at least one defined area of information governance (data protection, freedom of information, records management) and applying related legal and regulatory requirements. Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills, as well as the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters professionally, are essential.

Working Conditions

Hybrid model with two days per week on campus. Flexible working hours across the full working week, Monday to Friday, to support statutory deadlines and team cover.
