The London Borough of Redbridge is located on the outer fringes of North‑East London and has an excellent transport network, including rail and tube links into central London, while also enjoying several square miles of Green Belt land. The Building Control section is part of the Planning service and plays an important role in ensuring that the Council’s legal obligations are met regarding the Building Regulations and associated legislation. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a busy Building Control section with a well‑established track record of good performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine plans and conduct site inspections for commercial, complex, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
  • Deal with unauthorised works, dangerous structures, and demolitions.
  • Provide advice to clients on building codes and sustainability and climate change issues.
  • Lead and deputise for the Building Control Manager and supervising officers where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.

Requirements

  • Registered or applied and have an exam date for Class 2 Band B and Class 3 Band C under the BCSF accreditation scheme (or equivalent).
  • Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent (sound building industry background).
  • Good leadership skills, IT and communication skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team, and meet deadlines.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or Association of Building Engineers).
  • Ability to access or drive a car/have a car for Council use with appropriate licence and insurance.
