UCLH delivers highly specialised Radiotherapy and Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) services to adult and paediatric patients. The Radiotherapy department treats over 2,400 new patients annually and is recognised nationally for its expertise in complex and technical treatments, including brain cancers (as a Tessa Jowell Centre of Excellence), paediatric radiotherapy, sarcoma, head and neck cancers, SABR, haematological treatments, brachytherapy and molecular radiotherapy. The service operates six bunkers equipped with Varian TrueBeam technology and manages a predominantly complex caseload supported by a large multidisciplinary team.

UCLH has been designated as one of two national PBT centres for the UK. Our PBT department provides cutting‑edge proton therapy for highly complex tumour sites with a strong focus on paediatric, teenage and young adult cancers. Using a Varian ProBeam system with four gantries, a cyclotron, spectral CT and MRI, the service is expanding and will treat around 550 NHS patients a year, with a significant proportion delivered through national trials and Evaluative Commissioning programmes. UCLH has a partnership with Proton International and offers private proton therapy treatment – this service is expanding and will treat around 250 privately funded patients a year.
