Job Description:

To support the Home Manager in the day-to-day running of the care home, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care in line with regulatory requirements. The Deputy Manager will develop their skills and knowledge with a future Opportunity for progression.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Assist in the overall management of the care home to ensure smooth and efficient operation
  • Act in the absence of the Home Manager, taking responsibility for the service
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Support with audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes

Care Delivery

  • Promote and maintain high standards of person-centred care
  • Ensure care plans and risk assessments are accurate, up to date, and reflective of residents’ needs
  • Monitor care practices to ensure dignity, respect, and safeguarding at all times
  • Respond to incidents, complaints, and safeguarding concerns appropriately

Staff Management

  • Support recruitment, induction, supervision, and appraisal of staff
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to the care team
  • Assist with staff training and development, ensuring mandatory training is completed
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and professional working environment

Compliance & Quality

  • Support the home in achieving and maintaining compliance with CQC standards
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Participate in internal audits and implement improvements where required

Resident & Family Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and external professionals
  • Ensure effective communication regarding care and any changes in condition
  • Support residents’ wellbeing, activities, and quality of life

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a senior care role within a residential or nursing home
  • Strong knowledge of care standards, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in leading or supervising staff
  • Good communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including on-call duties if required

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (essential)
  • NVQ Level 5 in Leadership for Health & Social Care (or currently working towards)
  • Willingness to complete further training relevant to the role

Additional Requirements

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults
  • Understanding of CQC regulations and care standards
  • Flexibility to support the needs of the service
