Job Summary

This is a mostly non‑patient facing position, requiring a candidate with clinical trials and/or project management experience. The successful candidate will promote and facilitate the adoption of NIHR portfolio studies within the Trust, with particular attention to less active research areas and within the current framework of local and national guidelines, protocols and NIHR requirements. The role involves collaboration across a wide range of disciplines and with external agencies, including funders, and requires effective communication, negotiation, and motivational skills.

Responsibilities

  1. Identify new or potential research studies (including NIHR portfolio, non‑portfolio, and commercial trials), research receptive professionals, funding streams, and clinical specialities within the Trust.
  2. Co‑ordinate and resolve issues relating to research studies, ensuring successful set‑up and recruitment.
  3. Manage staff within the governance team, carrying out appraisals, training, induction, and one‑to‑ones, maintaining communication with senior management.
  4. Assess feasibility of new and potential clinical trials and research studies, evaluating financial implications, human resources, infrastructure, equipment needs with appropriate staff including consultants, departmental heads, research nurses, specialist nurses, and the R&D budget holder.
  5. Analyse and compare feasible research studies to prioritise and maximise accrual and developmental targets.
