About the Role

Cambian Group, the UK’s largest provider of specialist services in children’s residential care, education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities, is looking for a dedicated individual to join the company as a Mental Health Practitioner. The post will require someone with previous experience of working in residentials and CAMHS settings, specifically within Looked After Children’s services and familiarity with a consultation model of service delivery.

Job Responsibilities

Embed a trauma-informed approach within our complex care community residential services, working with young people who display social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties. Provide specialist assessments, formulate and implement therapeutic intervention plans, and manage presentations in line with evidence-based practice. Deliver timely support across school and home settings to help young people overcome trauma and make safe, confident, independent decisions.

Spend most of the time out in the field, providing therapeutic services in community residential settings, assessing and identifying needs of young people and staff, and delivering consultation, training and reflective practice.

Candidate Profile

  • Registered with the relevant professional organization (HCPC, NMC, BACP)
  • A higher-level qualification in a relevant subject such as counselling, therapeutic support, psychotherapy, social work or nursing.
  • Experience working with vulnerable young people in a therapeutic or counselling setting.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Experience using a consultation model.
  • Understanding of reflective practice.
  • Understanding of social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • Understanding of the complex and multiple needs of vulnerable young people in both school and home environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate risk of young people.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make decisions as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries in respect of personal and professional responsibility.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and record keeping across all services.
  • Passionate about working with vulnerable at-risk young people.
  • Non-judgemental, empathetic attitude.
  • Willingness to undertake all relevant training.
  • Full clean driving licence; travel throughout the county may be required.
